Industries Built for the Coronavirus and Dividend Investors

The market’s volatility has been insane as of late, due to the health & economic impact from the Coronavirus.  If you see the chart below – your stomach definitely has to be feeling the highs and lows that each day brings.  One day you can be down 9.51% (like on the 12th) and the very next day, up 9.29%, followed by being down 11.98%.

S&P 500, Coronavirus

This is what we are in for, over the next few months, I believe.  The question is – what do you invest in?  What are the dividend stocks in the stock market that can weather through the Coronavirus storm?  We took time to think about the industries that are doing well during the global pandemic we are going through. Expected Dividend Increases in February 2018

What a month it has been for dividend increases!  Each month, I highlight the companies that are expected to announce a dividend increase in the coming month.  For the first time, I am speechless.   In January, I highlighted three companies that were expected to increase their dividend in the coming month.  But man was I blown out of the water with all of the dividend increases that were announced.  February will have some tough shoes to follow!  Enough talk, let’s dive right in and summarize the companies that increased their dividend in January and which companies are expected to announce a dividend increase in February.

Bert’s October Stock Watch List

My last two articles have been reviewing my past performance, checking in on my goals through the end of September and reviewing my September dividend income.  Both of the articles were showing that my portfolio and dividend income are trending in the right direction.  With three months to spare, I’m looking to keep that momentum going.   So I took some time tonight to prepare my October stock watch list and see if I can pinpoint a few stocks to keep a close eye on over the next several weeks.

Bert’s August Stock Watch List

Earlier in the week, I crossed a big investing milestone….crossing $3,000 in forward dividend income.   It took me 15 months to jump from $2,000 to $3,000 and at the end of the article, I challenged myself to hit the next milestone in half the time.  To get there, I better get moving quickly.  What’s the best way to increase your dividend income?  Not a trick question here, but purchase stock!   I thought it would be a good idea to do some research this evening and put together a small watch list of stocks that have caught my eye.  Here it is, my August stock watch list.

Recent Buy (Again) – Target Corporation – TGT

It feels good to step off the sidelines and buy a stock considering the market has been on a tear for the last few months.  Slowly and surely, I was stashing cash aside waiting for the right opportunity to strike.   On this day, I received a message from Lanny in the morning that was short and to the point. “Target…may be time to buy.”  I had just woke up at this time (I was in a timezone two hours behind), but I knew that message meant that something big happened with Target’s stock that caused the price to drop.  When I read the text, I didn’t realize it, but Target was falling after their most recent earnings release.  The time was right, so let’s see I decided to purchase additional shares of Target this week.

Bert’s February Watch List

I’m getting an itch to invest.  Even after purchasing Pfizer a few weeks ago I still have some capital that I am trying to deploy.  This is eerily starting to remind me of when Lanny ran into the same problem (at the same time as a matter of fact!) of having capital to deploy but  no where to put it.    Despite the fact that the market wasn’t cooperating this week, I have my eyes on a few stocks that are getting very close to my “buy” zone.   If the prices fall next week, I may not be able to resist buying.  Time to check out my February Watch List!
