It shouldn’t be a secret for too many of you. After nearly a year of marriage and our desire to wait as long as possible to purchase a house, my wife and I are now actively searching for our first home. We have toured over a dozen houses within the last two weeks and we have not found one that we like enough yet to make the plunge. It may be another three years before we find one that checks all of our boxes at this rate. This will be a long process and I’ll have a lot of different topics to write about along this journey. So today, I wanted to write about my recent process for finding the perfect mortgage and finally getting our pre-approval.
If you haven’t picked up on this yet, after we stated earlier in the year we were not in a hurry to buy a house, my wife and I are beginning to ramp up the process for buying a house. Wow is it a complicated, intense, and fast-moving process. We’ve read articles, listened to countless hours of conversations with family/friends, and co-workers, and fallen asleep too many nights to HGTV in our effort to gather as much information as possible. Buying a house is such a major life decision and we are going to take our time with the decision. We are finalizing on our list of things that are the most important to the two of us and it only seemed fitting to whittle our list down to a five.
Last weekend, my wife and I met with a real estate agent to initiate the first step of buying our first house! In the past, I have written about how we are in no hurry to purchase a house, take on a mortgage, and begin incurring all the extra expenses that we hear about from friends and family. But, we anticipate the home buying process to be a lengthy process for us as we carefully vet our options to find that perfect house. This article will be a different style and format that I have had in the past, because I would love to leave it open-ended for a discussion and hear from as many people as possible about this topic. So please, at the end, share your experience/story!
