My Monthly House Expenses – Mid-2016 Update

Hello everyone!  I wanted to be able to update one of life’s biggest monthly costs that I am chewing on – and that is – the cost of living in my house each and every month.  Surprisingly it has been over 2 years since I have written about my payments that go out each month, and to show the community whether that has changed for better or for worse, even though I internally review this each and every month.  I find more data and time interesting, as it can really tell how well you manage and how consistent you are able to keep with your management & money.  Without further-ado here is my 2016 update to my housing expenses!

When will Netflix monthly subscription be “Too High”?

I love Netflix (NFLX).  I honestly do not know where I would be during busy season without the streaming subscription service and even on lazy Saturday or Sunday mornings with the lady binge watching a show with a cup of coffee.  For us “cable cutters”, Netflix has been a wonderful supplement for our entertainment purposes.  Back in 2014, Netflix rose their prices on new customers from $7.99 to $9.99, but didn’t touch us grandfathered customers.  They didn’t touch us, until now.  Our price will go up 25% from $7.99 to $9.99 or a “small” $2 more per month or $24/year (excluding taxes).  Question is – when and at what price will Netflix be too much or too high?

Lanny’s May Dividend Income Summary

Whoo!  Here we go!  The Cavs just clinched the Eastern Conference and are going to The Finals – beginning June 2nd, two of my best friends were married this month and I’m excited to see what opportunities lie ahead going into the last 7 months of the year.  The market has been essentially slightly up since the end of May, but not by much – however, we still do have Tuesday, May 31st to make a statement (I’d be happy with a 5% stock shock downwards… haha).  With that – let’s check out what dividends were received in this month of May 2016!

United Parcel Service (UPS) Stock Analysis

With the stock market still continuing it’s position at very high points – it has left us dividend value investors to find little-to no room to make a move.  There have been flashes of companies taking a few steps back, such as Target (TGT) and Apple (AAPL), but what other companies are out there that may have not been in the public news, but that still look attractive right now?  Well, I received a package in the mail the other day and had a conversation about what industries may be benefiting from low oil prices?  What about shipping companies?  Better yet… what about United Parcel service (UPS)?  Let’s find out!

The Most Important Dividend Metric in Difficult Times

I was laying in bed thinking of this day and age, the performance of companies and how critical attributes are in determining what is the absolute most important metric for a dividend stock you own.  I began reviewing the list of stocks that I currently own, you name it – Procter & Gamble (PG), Johnson & Johnson (JNJ), AT&T (T) and other big dividend aristocrats and I finally saw the trend of what made my stomach feel uneasy and what made it feel comfortable.  That metric was the payout ratio.
