Philip Morris (PM) Stock Anaylsis

Looks like I have a little capital from my recent ARCP sale to deploy, so I wanted to take this opportunity to research a potential investment for the excess capital.  For me, it was a no-brainer figuring out which stock I was going to analyze.  Tobacco has a relatively low weight in my portfolio even though the power companies in the industry offer a very attractive yields.  With stock prices falling lately, it seemed like a great time to assess my only tobacco holding, Philip Morris (“PM”), to determine if I should re-up my position.

Stock Purchase 12/30 – ROK

The Lord knows I couldn’t stay behind the scenes or on the sidelines for this long, as it has been quite some time since I made a full on stock purchase.  I was itching for an action and I knew the end of the year was coming and wanted to go out with a “bang”.  I woke up on December 30th, after having analyzed the stock market the day before and knew what I was after and it was in a different industry that I have not truly been exposed to before.  Enough with the opening, let’s dive into my recent stock purchase and find out what, why and how much!

Bert’s Portfolio Review and Assessment

2014 has been a CRAZY year for my portfolio, Lanny’s portfolio, and many other participants in this great community.  For many of us, we have pushed ourselves to the limit and infused as much capital as possible into our portfolios to get the dividend growth snowball running.  After all, as dividend growth investors, we know the power of dividend reinvesting and all the benefits, so stretching ourselves to invest as much as possible early just makes sense.  Before we begin 2015, I wanted to take some time to perform a portfolio review to assess the current state of my portfolio and perform some quick tests to see what tweaks my portfolio may need in 2015 or what areas I should be focusing on with my next round of capital deployment.   With that being said, let’s peel back the layers my portfolio and dive in!

Goal Accomplished! Crossing $1,750 Projected Dividend Income

2014 has been a crazy, unreal year for my portfolio.   I have pushed myself to invest more capital than I was comfortable investing for the sake of reaching financial independence that much faster.   When 2014 began, I was projected to earn only $750 in dividend income.  My portfolio only had $17k invested in income producing assets with some major funds just sitting on the sidelines.   When the calendar flipped, I initially set a projected dividend income of $1,500 and surpassed this total early in the year.  I decided to increase this goal $250 and set a new target of $1,750.   I can now proudly say I my projected annual dividend income is $1,752, surpassing my goal.  So how did I do it?

Bert’s July Investment Report

Wow, what a crazy end to the month!  I felt like the last week was filled with can’t miss stock market action.  It seemed like every minute I opened my eyes another chunk of my market value was missing.  But it is okay, the decline has two factors I love: it increases the power of dividend re-investing and it creates new buying opportunities.  Lanny recently wrote about on Friday 4 stocks that he is considering re-upping his position in because of this decline.  For me,  I may finally make my long-awaited move into the financial sector.  I know I will be purchasing something next week; I just don’t know what that stock is yet.  But it seems like Aflac is a very solid potential purchase and may be forcing my hand.  Anyways, before I continue to babble about future purposes, I figured I would review my month of July Investment Report.
