The Most Important Dividend Metric in Difficult Times

I was laying in bed thinking of this day and age, the performance of companies and how critical attributes are in determining what is the absolute most important metric for a dividend stock you own.  I began reviewing the list of stocks that I currently own, you name it – Procter & Gamble (PG), Johnson & Johnson (JNJ), AT&T (T) and other big dividend aristocrats and I finally saw the trend of what made my stomach feel uneasy and what made it feel comfortable.  That metric was the payout ratio. Notable Dividend Increases – April 2016

Dividend increases – one major reason why we are in the dividend investing community, right?  The month of April is always a fun month for the Dividend Diplomat Portfolio, as there are a few DOW companies that increase their dividend through this wonderful month.  We wanted to write an article to bring forth those notable dividend increases this month of April and to see the impact on my portfolio and then to see how you and other investors benefited.  Don’t worry – I’ll keep it to 3 stocks!  Now… let’s dive on in! 2 Low Dividend Yield Stocks on My Watch List

I am getting the itch.  Man oh man am I getting the investing itch.  Lanny wrote about how it has been at least 30 days since he has purchased a stock and that article was written over a month ago!  Guess what, we still haven’t bought a stock since that article was published.  So while the market continues to rise, I have been collecting cash patiently waiting for the right moment to strike.   Q1 earnings are starting to be released and there may be a crack in the armor of a couple of low yielding companies I have been following.   Let’s see which two low dividend yield stocks I have on my radar.

5 Reasons I Am in No Hurry to Buy a House

My fiance and I have been joking around about this (well, mostly me) recently.  When you talk about your wedding with your friends and family, there seems to be three questions that always enter the conversation.    Where is your honeymoon?  When are you having a baby? And when are you going to buy a house?   I love the questions and have a great time talking about them.  I just think it is funny how they always seem to come up!  I’m sure most of you out there that have gotten married know exactly what I am talking about.  The first two are easy answers, and unlike DivHut, you won’t be reading about a Baby Diplomat dividend growth investing fund anytime soon.   The purpose of this article is to focus on point number three, when are we going to buy a house?  I spoiled the suspense with the title of the article, so let’s take a look into why we are in no hurry to purchase a house after our wedding.

Should I Sell my First Energy (FE) Stock?

Oddly, this isn’t the first time this thought has popped in to my mind.  Last year I wrote a piece title “3 Reasons I Would Sell a Stock.”  The listing was created to help me identify holdings that have fallen out of favor in my portfolio or have not performed.  After elaborating on the 3 reasons I would sell, I reviewed my portfolio for any stocks that met the criteria.  Any takers on guessing which one of the stocks that was discussed in the article?  First Energy!  Shocker, right?  After one heck of a run by the stock that has brought me close to break even, I now find myself asking the question again.  Is it finally time to sell my stake in First Energy?

First KMI… now BBL… The Pain

Here I am again… hurting, almost feels like the knife that went in the first time was starting to come out, only to be pushed, but this time twisted.  Another dividend cut, the 2nd one in three little months.  Another commodity dependent business – BHP Billiton (BBL) cut their dividend, by an almost “coincidentally” 74% – the approximate figure that KMI also cut theirs by.  This didn’t just sting, this burns, but it is a very & true learning experience for me.  Read on… Continue reading
