My Recent Stress & Finding New Ways to Combat It

The last month or so for me has been, oh how do I say it…crazy.  And I’m not going to lie, a lot of the craziness and stress has been self-induced.  Through all of this, I’ve learned that a lot of my typical de-stressing activities were suddenly not doing the trick anymore.  It has slowly trickled through to a lot of different aspects of my life and it sucks.  At times, my typical upbeat self has felt anything but that.  With typical methods not working, I have been searching for other means to de-stress.

Bert’s Q2 2017 Goals Review

I’m starting to see a trend with the second quarter of each year for me…it is ridiculously busy.  In 2016, my wife and I had our wedding.  In 2017, we attended a few weddings, purchased a “new” used car, and oh yeah, we purchased our first home!  Life truly comes at you fast, and that was a statement that I never truly appreciated until recently.  So much can change in the blink of an eye, it makes you realize that you have to make sure you enjoy as much of it as possible before it is too late.    With the second quarter in the rear view mirror, Lanny and I take some time to assess our progress towards knocking out the goals we set for ourselves at the beginning of the year.  Here is my Q2 2017 Goals review!

The Millionaire Next Door: Book Review & 5 Takeaways

Here we are. The first book review EVER posted on this website and I could not think of a better book to begin with.  Finally, after many references on other blogs and suggestions in forums, I decided to read “The Millionaire Next Door” by Thomas Stanley, PHD and Willian Danko, PHD.  It amazes me that it has taken me THIS long to read the book, but I guess it is better late than never, right?  One of my goals in 2017 was to read more books, so this seemed like a great place to start.  Here are some of my thoughts on the book.

Bert’s 2017 Goals

With 2016 coming to a close and New Years rapidly approaching, we are running out of time to publish our 2017 goals so that we can hit the ground running on January 1st and sprint towards the finish line.  If you haven’t noticed, the two of us have spent a lot of time thinking about taking the right approach to the goal setting process.  We are not aiming to cross a low bar here on this website.  Instead, we have taken months to find purpose driven goals that are challenging and are going to push us.  Will it be comfortable achieving all of these goals…no!  But is that really the point of the goal setting process?  We want to sweat, we want to force ourselves to scrape every dollar together….we want to feel the burn.  Man, I’m starting to sound like Lanny here.  After a month of brainstorming, number crunching, and debates, here they are, my five 2017 goals!

I Need to Read More

This one is out of left field, I know, but I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently.  It is a phrase that almost everyone states or thinks, but rarely acts on.  How many have you said ….”I need to read more.”  Well, over the past few months, I have been trying to act on this phrase a lot more and follow through with the whole reading thing.   This article isn’t rocket science nor am I sharing the secret to investing or life.  I just wanted to share my experience with you and see if you have any tips to help keep me reading at night.
