Okay – I am sure the title fools you, but I thought it may be clever to have one think – what are Bert and Lanny up to now? Are they okay? Yes – we are okay and no – we do not have a physical Cigarette problem. It comes down to the fact that I (Lanny) own both Lorillard (LO) and Phillip Morris (PM). I have had a discussion with Bert on the right plan of attack with holding Lorillard and PM looking at a very low price point/strong valuation. Here is the cigarette problem I am facing.
I’m back at it baby! After almost a one month hiatus from buying a stock outside of my 401k
purchases through my employer, I am back on the saddle and made a few moves. The month of March has opened up great opportunities into the market place and I’m even more excited to purchase more stock in the coming days/weeks. The market from the last 5 business days of 3/2 – 3/6, has dropped almost 2 % overall and has really opened up great dividend stocks at better prices. I have been tracking Dividend Aristocrats that are expected to announce a dividend increase each month since May 2014, and February set a record as 8 companies were expected to announce an increase. While March won’t pack the same punch with announced increases, it is the most active month in the quarter for receiving dividends! Looks like I have a little capital from my recent ARCP sale to deploy, so I wanted to take this opportunity to research a potential investment for the excess capital. For me, it was a no-brainer figuring out which stock I was going to analyze. Tobacco has a relatively low weight in my portfolio even though the power companies in the industry offer a very attractive yields. With stock prices falling lately, it seemed like a great time to assess my only tobacco holding, Philip Morris (“PM”), to determine if I should re-up my position.
