For the first time on this website, I thought it would be a good idea to publish a review of my investment portfolio! Lanny has been doing so each quarter and we are discussing many of these metrics on a regular basis either when together or on the phone. So I figured it would be a good time to sip on a cup of tea (notice no coffee today) and dive into some of the numbers.
Wow, has December been a crazy month in the stock market to say the least. Lanny has taken advantage of some of the craziness and put some capital to work and so have I. There have been some frustrating moments for me (I’ll describe those later in the article). But overall, I was excited to grab some stocks at a discount and continue to build my forward dividend income. Luckily, my account was still eligible for free trades and I was able to engage in a lot of small trades. With a fresh cup of coffee in hand, I’m ready to summarize the stock purchases. Let’s dive right in!
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The winter is upon us and the holiday season is right around the corner. It is time to bust out the Christmas Trees, decorations, menorahs, and whatever else you and your families use to celebrate the holidays. I know our house is ready to go! On top of it, it is officially the most exciting dividend month of the year…December! But before I jump ahead, now that it is a new month, it is time to summarize the results from the previous month. Thanksgiving is over, the first major snow has hit our hometown, and lookout, our Cleveland Browns have finally won back-to-back football games! Now that the calendar is set to turn and we enter the most exciting dividend month of the year, you know what that means? It is time for the next installment of one of our longest running blog post series. Each month, we do our best to highlight as many companies that are expected to announce a dividend increase that month. Since we love dividend increases and follow them so closely, we love trying to share the news with you! We can’t include them all, but we try to hit the major ones. Here we go! The final two months of stock market action for 2018 and it wouldn’t be the same without releasing what is currently on my radar, at the moment. A few easy one’s that most are looking at, right now, but hopefully a fresh new look at a company or two, in the mix. I know the stock market has been significantly all over the place, what an investor still can do is evaluate a company based on their financial statements and stock price and make a decision to buy or not to buy. Always remember, price is what you pay and value is what you get. I have been saying that to so many people lately, they think I’m crazy. Without further-ado here is my November dividend stock watch list!
Since I am have free trades for a few more months, I was able to make a series of small purchases over the last several weeks. With Mr. Market being moody, there were plenty of positions that I wanted to add to or begin establishing. There is one new name on this list and I was able to add this company three times during this time frame! With the market sliding, I turned my attention to Dividend Aristocrats. In times like these, I like to try to add to those companies that have demonstrated their ability to pay their dividend through many economic cycles. Especially when the Aristocrats are trading at a discount.
