Labor Day is behind us and we are closing in on the final quarter of the year! Fall is my favorite season. The outdoors, changing leaves, football, playoff baseball, great food, bonfires….man I’m happy this season is here. As with each month, we take a look at how we performed compare to last year to measure our growth, progress, and pursuit of good old financial freedom! Just when you thought summer was winding down, I am writing this in blistering heat out there – as it has just about touched 90 degrees here in Northeast Ohio. Last month I said it was raining dividends, well this month – we are scorching dividends baby! We are now EIGHT months down with FOUR monstrous months left to kick butt. I have been spending even more time to see where things are looking, financially, and let’s just say it’ll be a grind through the end of the year. The deed has been done. I have finally made a decision to switch the insurance carrier for both Home & Auto. It had to be done and I have said goodbye to my insurance carrier of, I believe, 7 years. This has been the year of change, to say the least. However, who am I kidding? This was one of the easiest decisions of my life and saving $290 to switch, made that decision even easier. This year, we started a financial education series geared towards educating beginning investors and more specifically, beginning dividend growth investors. Dividend increases are the name of the game and the two of us are checking every evening to see if one of our companies increased their dividend! And best of all, we love sharing this excitement with each of you via our blog, Twitter Feed, or by other means. For those of you that are new to the website, each month, I try my best to compile a list of companies that are expected to announce a dividend increase in the coming month. While I can’t include every company in the article, I do my best to capture as many Dividend Aristocrats and other companies as possible. Time for me to put it on paper. I have to do this and it will force me to stay on target. I did not come out with a goal article this year. I wanted to keep it simple and knew I wanted to place around $45,000 into the market this year. However, things happen during the year that altered, not the amount, but how I get there. Early on, quite a bit would have been through tax-advantaged accounts, but due to an event this year, I don’t have that option (which I will explain). Therefore, I am aiming to achieve $7,200 in forward dividend income by December 31, 2018 in my taxable account.
The calendar turns and I am ready to put some extra capital to work. Over the last month, I have been busy initiating positions in Tyson, WestRock, and Illinois Tool Works. The market has been interesting over the last few weeks. There haven’t been too many buying opportunities out there, at least compared to the previous months. Still, I run a stock screener each week (sometimes daily) to see what opportunities may be out there. It has been a while since I have published my dividend stock watch list.
