What another crazy week in the stock market. The price of crude oil continues to slide, causing the price of many great dividend growth stocks to continue to slide. Both Diplomats had extra capital to spend (one much more than the other) to take advantage of the discounts the market has provided us. Which stocks did we buy this week? A few markets, outside of the market as a whole, took a little more of a “goodfellas” beating than others – Canadian Banks, Oil, Mineral/Resource realm.
Well, my Black Friday shopping did in fact happen! Even after I talked about ways to appreciate and be frugal this holiday season, I still went shopping Friday early morning! However, I didn’t wait in line overnight, instead – I chose to buy stocks with a few clicks of my mouse! There was one area of the market that took a beating yesterday – oil and minerals, and I took advantage of the steep, STEEP decline on Friday the 28th. Let’s dive into what I bought, how many and why.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! This is my favorite holiday of the year. We relax, spend time with our loved ones, share stories of the last year, eat a ton of food, and watch football. What’s not to love?? Anyways, I started Black Friday a little early this week. To make Lanny proud, I was shopping frugally as I added a new position in a new industry to my portfolio using a free trade from Sharebuilder! I may have joined a bandwagon, but I purchased several shares of IBM this week! Why? Let’s find out!

First it was Toys & Alcohol, then it was locked, cocked & ready to unload or even CRUSHING $4,000 in dividend income. I hope that this title doesn’t let you down – Tech & Toys. Wow… as my title suggests, I have had my portfolio ammunition – locked, cocked and ready to UNLOAD! There has been a lot of activity this month and thought – well, by Monday we are halfway through the month essentially and there’s been a lot of activity worthy of a post. My locked, cocked & ready to unload began the very first day of October and has came to another chapter Friday October 10th. Pharmaceutical. You have to love that industry right? I know the industry has many players, but also many big time pharm teams out there. You have Pfizer, Eli Lilly, Merck, Novartis, GlaxoSmithKline – the list is big and these companies are strong. I bought a dividend stock on September 8th to add to my position for pharmaceutical companies, that company is, GlaxoSmithKline. Continue reading
