Lanny’s June Dividend Income

6 months have passed!  It’s now a quarter end as well, giving us another homerun of a month for Dividend Income.  Also, as summer just turned the page to begin, let’s see if brighter sun and warmer weather also aligned with a blockbuster of a month for dividend income!

Dividend Income

This month, I received a total of $844.17.  This was another record June month that I have ever had, especially in comparison to last year’s goliath month of $753.57 in income, as the income is higher, the jumps won’t be as substantial.  However, it’s worthy to note a big oil company of mine didn’t pay this June as they did last year and are instead paying in July, which is the reason it wasn’t the biggest jump (higher, nonetheless!).

Similarly, I have split out between the individual stock amounts and the retirement accounts, as the ” – R” indicates a Roth IRA dividend (or the furthest column to the right, I forgot the “R” on O).  I separate these two, as I like to know what portion of my dividend income is coming from those retirement accounts that I cannot touch until 59.5 (barring any other usage rule I could use).  Here, it shows that I received a total of $433.24 or 51% of my income from retirement accounts and the other 49% was from my individual taxable account portfolio.  This is much higher than it has been in other months, simply because quarter end is a big month for the ETFs/Roth 401K Fund/old Roth Fund’s dividend.  To see my portfolio – one can go to our portfolio summary page.

Comparison

Now, I look back at 2014 June’s total.  The total then was $753.57.  From a pure percentage stand point, a growth rate of 12.03%  – pretty happy considering the “Size” of the growth i.e. almost $100 more.  If I keep that up, this time next year will be over $945, I wouldn’t doubt that that is where it will be.  I know I’ll be there, I have to be, I can feel it.  With new purchases, new dividend reinvestment and dividend growth – I’ve got this!  Also, I had 19 different positions that paid me this month.  19.  Think about that.  19 different areas handed me a check.  So happy, words cannot even begin to describe this.  Also, my increase within VINIX (the mutual fund for my 401K), had a nice jump of over $30, showing the power of the 401k, the match and reinvestment.  Overall, very happy, it could have been a little higher, but one of my companies is paying during July instead of June and that is approximately $70 more (give or take a few bucks).  That’s okay, July will be there for me.  My purchase into JNJ will also help with June and other quarter ends going forward, which will be nice, as this month wasn’t impacted yet.

Dividend Income Increases

Strong month from a dividend growth standpoint!  One of my favorite Canadian Banks – Canadian Imperial (CM) increased their dividend again slightly by $0.03 (CAD) and after conversation/translation, this increased my portion going forward by $6.45.  Further, Target had a nice increase of 7.70% this year, with Caterpillar increasing there’s by a great figure of 10%.  Further, Realty Income or (O), which is one of Bert’s stocks regarding the impact of Greece, had a small bump as well.  From Dividend increases, $25.16 was added to my forward looking income from just thi smonth alone.  Perfect and cannot be anymore happier.

Conclusion & Summary

As I discussed back then with my normal monthly expenditures at the moment, this $844 covers 89.6% of my average $942 monthly expense for my house, including utilities.  This covers my utilities and even the majority of a grocery bill if that would be the case.  Interesting.  This actually almost fully covers my mortgage, property tax and house insurance payment, NICE!  All of the investing from last year and moves this year, show being frugal to save 60% of my income help me in achieving lofty goals that I set in place for my 2015 year.  I am looking forward to July, as with one of companies pushing their payout to July, should add a very nice bump.  Thankful and happy to reflect on this month from all of the hardwork.  How did your June month’s go?  Did you crush your goals?  Did you beat last year’s?  Anything unusual happy?  Please share!  Thanks everyone

    • Roadmap,

Thank you for coming by and reviewing the breakdown. I appreciate the kind words – I wish so bad I could have crossed the 4 digit mark. I am seeing if September MAY be the day… if not December for sure. I would have been over $900 with TOT/TOTAL the oil company, but they moved to mid-July.

Great increases, of course. We are all benefiting from this as well!

  1. Two congratulations Lanny.
First, being possibly the first blogger to report June dividends. And second, on that massive paycheck!
Covering a huge portion of your mandatory expenses already, that’s pretty exciting stuff.
I’m still waiting one dividend check for June. Should arrive on tuesday.

    • Div Lord,

Thank YOU! Very lucky here with this month, that’s for sure. Still am a bit competitive with myself, as I wanted to try and cross $1K, but it’s back to the drawing board or, purchasing great dividend companies board!

It is exciting, I feel like I am almost at $500/month going forward right now on average with what my projections say and that is utterly phenomenal. Once you get the last check, post it and write about it, pumped to read!

  2. Congrats Lanny! Almost a $100 increase over June 2015 is awesome. Especially since $25 of it came from raises. Hope you make it to 1k in September!

    • Ken,

Thanks for coming by – I appreciate the congrats and motivation! So close to the $1K. July should be interesting, considering the Kraft deal will have a special dividend payout. Looking forward to your review as well.

    • Adam,

Thanks man! I appreciate it… it’s nice keeping track, seeing where you were, where you are and where you’re heading –> and the future looks bright! Thanks again for coming by.

  3. Nice work Lanny!

I can only hope to get near $1k a month someday. Im about a tenth of the way there now. lol.

Inspiring to read. Thanks for the tip on VINIX as well. Im going to take a deeper look at that one.

  4. Lanny:

19 different companies paying you $844.17 total and 51% of this is non-taxable…WOW. That has got to be an amazing feeling. Congratulations on working towards and developing such an awesome passive income source!

    Best,
    Alex

    • Alex,

Thanks for the comment! I know, the 19 different entities paying is a bit wild to me, but I’ll take it, right? It is from time and hard work, commitment, I would say. The source is steam rolling, but I know we all do what we can to build this snowman. Getting closer, each month that passes.

  5. Great passive income stream this past month Lanny! Got to love those record breaking months my friend. Also, cheers to getting four raises this past month too! I’m pretty sure there is no job out there where you’d be able to say you just got 4 raise this past month. 🙂

Keep it up. Look forward to seeing the next income report. Thanks for sharing. AFFJ

    • AFFJ,

Thank you for coming by. It is pretty cool – 4 of entities in the portfolio decided to kick back a little more to the owners, eh? Some more than others, but all in the right direction this month. I appreciate the kind words, without a doubt.

Thanks again AFFJ – looking forward to reading your June div report!

  6. Lanny, Thank you for sharing my friend. You’re ripping it up bud. Just hustling it up! I love it. We’re all happy for you! This path and journey is fun, exciting, rewarding and definitely Full-Filling. I love it and glad we found it. I’ll always be on this journey with you bud. Take care and proud of you. Cheers.

    • Hustler,

Thank you for coming to read it. I appreciate the motivating words – big time. I’m lucky to have some big guns like you and a few others showing what can happen with a bigger portfolio and being consistent with the purchases.

This journey is, without a doubt, a blast and man – each month that passes, I can taste the sweetness that much more. Proud of you and everyone as well, no stopping us now.

  7. Lanny,
Wow, impressive dividend builder. 89% of expense cover is even more impressive. Even without any further capital investment with a 5% increase in dividend each year, you can meet 100% expense coverage in 2.3 years.

    • Vivianne,

Thank you so much! It is just one month, but hopefully they all start looking this promising : ) I also appreciate the breakdown and showing that if it all stalls and a modest div increase, I’d cover those expenses in no time. Pretty cool. I see your $578 in dividends as well for the month – I’m jumping over to read, congrats !

      -Lanny

    • MDP,

Man oh man – I’m mad, not the 4 digit mark as I’d hope. The G Note is there, I know. September, right? I don’t want to be the typical Cleveland guy and say “there’s always next quarter…” haha. Thanks MDP, I’m going to keep chugging along.

      -Lanny

  8. Lanny,
Excellent month. That is a lot of money for doing nothing but being smart with your money and becoming an owner. Congrats, enjoy the freedom that extra cash brings you!
    – Gremlin

    • Gremlin,

Thank you! It is quite a bit. It’s weird, if I did nothing this month – that is what would be deposited to me. Kinda weird when I think of it like that? But what’s funny – the hard work, commitment and dedication is producing that. CAN’T STOP THE TRAIN! Right? Thanks again Gremlin!

      -Lanny

    • Tawcan,

Phew… blood sweat and tears, right? Next month could be high due to the Kraft special dividend : ) We shall see what ends up coming out in July, quite a few guys that pay me, but there’s room to grow – especially with the pullback from Greece… making these markets rather interesting. Thank you for coming by!

      -Lanny

    • Mike,

Thanks – I know you love these types of posts! Joking, joking. I appreciate you coming by to check it all out. The Greece impact is real! A lot of great companies going on sale… ready to pull a buy at all?

      -Lanny

      • Hahaha! Yes, my favorites! 😛 Doesn’t mean I don’t like encouraging efforts for others! 😉 Don’t tell me about the opportunities out there! Well aware of it, but I just can’t put capital new capital right now. I want a secure fund for the one-year trip. If I manage to sell our house this summer, that might change though. I’d be piling up some money before we leave for the RV and no house to pay!!! That’s the ideal case scenario.

        Cheers!

        Mike

  9. Lanny,

Congratulations my friend! Well earned and undeniable proof that DGI is real. That snowball is just humming along getting bigger and bigger. Covering almost 90% of your housing costs is insane and it will only get better with time. So here’s to the future!

    – HMB

  10. Lanny,

Great work, my friend. Just proof that living below your means and investing in great businesses that pay and grow dividends DOES work. The proof is in the pudding right there. Tangible cash flow that can (and eventually will) pay your bills.

    Keep it up!!

    Best regards.
