Lanny’s June Dividend Income Summary

It’s only right so say — WE ARE HALF WAY THROUGH THE YEAR!!!  On top of that – my Cavs won the NBA Finals and our first championship in 52+ years AND the Tribe are CURRENTLY on a 14 game win streak.  Cleveland could not be on any more fire than they are right now.  What about my portfolio?  Can it keep up with the heat that Cleveland as it’s aura?  Did my Dividend Portfolio spit out the best income it’s ever had?  Well, let’s find this out and see if I hit some big targets!

dividend income

Dividend income

This month, I received a total of $1,100.00, WHOA!  HERE WE GO!!  This is even better than my best month that was received in December 2015!  Cannot believe this, wow, wow, wow.  The dividend mantra was definitely with me this past month.  As you can see, my retirement accounts definitely provide a big jolt to the income mark, as well as some nice steady high profile aristocrats in my taxable account.  Now… let’s analyze:

June Dividend Income

What’s awesome here is you can see the impact of the big ADM purchase back in January and the February swoop in of T. Rowe Price (TROW) have started pouring in some dividends for this portfolio, at $42.34 and $25.57, respectively.

Similarly, I have split out between the individual stock amounts and the retirement accounts, as the ” – R” indicates a Roth IRA dividend (or the furthest column to the right, I must have left the “R”‘s off this month).  I separate these two, as I like to know what portion of my dividend income is coming from those retirement accounts that I cannot touch until 59.5 (barring any other usage rule I could use).  Here, it shows that I received a total of $496.63 or 45.1% of my income from retirement accounts (down from 51% last year, which is a positive) and the other 54.9% was from my individual taxable account portfolio.  We all know my set it and forget it mentality to keep that retirement income going, but also pumped to see that I had 10 companies pay me in my taxable individual account.  To see my portfolio – one can go to our portfolio summary page.

Comparison

Something that I like to do now is attach in prior year’s dividend income, which the image is copied in below, with 2015 first and 2016 to follow.

2015: Screen Shot 2015-06-27 at 10.26.11 AM

2016: June Dividend Income

Similarly as stated above – T. Rowe Price (TROW) and Archer Daniels (ADM) were the bigger/new entities in my portfolio, as well as Norfolk Southern (NSC), when compoaring to my portfolio and what was received last year.  Further – my dividend from the VGK ETF was up about $24 and VINIX 401(k) mutual fund was also up around $35, year over year.  I love this.  This growth is phenomenal, at 30.31% – I WOULD LOVE to keep doing this!  Think I can crush over $1,400 next year?  Well, I hope that the fact that I recently CRUSHED over $7,000 in projected dividend income helps get me there, that’s for sure!  So lucky here.

Dividend increases

June dividend increses

So last month I added over $17 in dividend income from dividend increases.  This month, we managed to add half at $8.51 from Target (TGT) and Realty Income (O) – both amazing dividend payers, that’s for sure, as shareholders I think it’s easy to say – WE LOVE YOU!!  Also – I scooped up another 30 shares earlier and then Bert came in to rocket a monster purchase into them as well.  I love that I’ve had consistent months of new income from dividend increases, so thank you companies for doing this!

Conclusion & Summary

As I discussed with my NEW updated – normal monthly expenditures at the moment, this $1,100 would cover 117% of my average $984 monthly expense for my house, including utilities; this is also up from 90% last year, so we are going in the right direction.  All of the investing from last year and moves this year, show being frugal to save 60% of my income, that every dollar counts, has helped me in achieving lofty goals that I set in place for my 2016 year.  What do you guys think of my month of June?  Were you able to take advantage of the “BREXIT” and buy on a few of those steep dips before the market rebounded?  Did you yourself set a new dividend record?  Excited for what’s to come the 2nd half of the year, as I have some monster articles, strategies and new directions to share with everyone.  VERY Excited, Scared, and Anxious.  Time, is all I have to say.  Happy 4th everyone and enjoy the time with friends & family!

  1. Lanny… this is awesome! Congrats my man! Crushed that 1k mark this month AND covered all of your expenses! You will be laying on a beach somewhere with nothing to worry about just living off them dividends. Enjoy the 4th!

    • Stefan,

Thanks my man!! Loving that it did cover my typical monthly house expenses, if only I can do that EVERY month and then some : ) Beach, loved ones, friends, anything around that would be perfect. Enjoy the 4th as well and keep the grind on.

    • DTen,

Thanks for coming by and the nice comment! It’s weird, 12 years of contributions, reinvesting, growth – who knows what the account will be like. Key is staying on top of the sound companies and ensuring they keep their head on right, RIght? haha. Happy 4th and enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

  2. Great YoY gains in dividend income Lanny, that is a solid growth that will be sustained by organic growth in the future years. It must be exciting, receiving this much, I am so eager to receive in similar sums. Just awesome!

Keep up the good work, the habit is already formed so just stay the course.

    • DVet,

Thank you, thank you, thank you! It is exciting, and you’ll be right there my man. Seriously – once that snowball starts rolling fast, it picks up more, rolls faster, repeat, right? Love this community we are apart of, couldn’t have it done it without you and others. Let’s stay hungry.

  3. Congrats! You’re totally crushing it! There’s a crazy satisfaction in seeing your dividend income eclipse expenses. And as time goes on this will only get better.

    • MrSLM,

Thank you so much for the comment, means a ton to me. If I had $1,500 steady per month… WOW, is all I can say. I wonder if I’ll be able to hit that number once – potentially December? 6 months to get there : ) Thanks again for stopping by and hope you enjoy the day!

  4. Awesome stuff Lanny! Over $1k in dividends and enough to cover all of your housing costs is amazing. If we add in the dividends received from the mutual funds we own in retirement accounts we cross the $1k mark as well. Although even excluding that we had our biggest month ever. Keep up and the great work and keep looking for opportunities to purchase excellent companies. All the best.

    • JC,

BIGGEST MONTH?! No way – awesome, and am pumped we are in the same boat. And yep – one of the reasons why I decipher between a “retirement” amount and individual amount on the post -to show that I can access $X today and may have to do some things to access $X tomorrow. Thanks again for popping by JC, very much appreciated and you do the same!

  5. Awesome and inspiring results as always. Congrats on breaking the four digit mark and getting paid from a nice long list of quality payers. That’s serious and real money that can pay for a lot of things in a month. Fresh capital and dividend raises are continuing to give your portfolio that extra mojo to keep pushing higher. Congrats to Cavs 🙁 I don’t want to talk about it.

    • DivHut,

Thank you tremendously. The four digit mark, as we know, is a very illusive thing and sometimes doesn’t feel real. Haha, no Cavs talk today though? Don’t worry, I’m just thrilled we were able to snag one championship, for the first time, in my 28 years. So happy and lucky – for the Cavs and for the dividends received. Divhut, it’s a long journey that we know too much about and we aren’t there yet!

  6. Wow, Lanny. That’s a pretty impressive amount of income right there. Before long, you’ll be able to live off of dividends if you keep this up. Isn’t that the reason, though?

    • Chris,

Thank you, it’s great seeing the 4 digits crossed, that’s for sure. How wild would it be to make this truly happen? So excited for this journey. I love it. Enjoy the 4th C!

  7. Great job Lanny. You are showing good results. You are laying the ground work to be able to live your life financialy free. What a blessing it is to have started on this path so early in life. All the best to you. I can’t wait to see what happens for ya next month. Thanks for sharing!

  8. Keep it up Lanny!
You’re doing amazing bro. Don’t stop and keep hustling hard! The progress is real and only trending upwards.
Thanks for sharing and have a nice 4th.
    Cheers bro.

    • Hustler,

THanks my man. Pumped I was able to cross the big 1,000 mark during the year, as opposed to just at December. Looking forward to hopefully have at least 2 more of these, 2017 – would love to keep making headway on the other “off” months for us U.S. investors (as I know my Canadian stocks, it seems that July, October, etc.) are the bigger months. The journey is real! Enjoy a great day DH!

    • TitMB,

Thanks for the comment and stopping by, means so much to me. Love your enthusiasm as well, I truly do hope to get to $8k over the next 6 months. Ah.. this damn journey, keeps going!

      -Lanny

  9. That is a lot of dividend, a whopping $1100. And it now officially covers your basic monthly expenses, looking forward to see the yearly average pull off the same thing!
    Cheers, Mr. CF

    • CF,

Muy apreciado! Thank you CF, just awesome motivation for me, to have something over 4 digits on average per month would be a great feat, and I have my shoes on willing to climb. Cheers to your day and hope you are able to rest and enjoy!

    • Tawcan,

Feels good – first time I’ve hit it in 2016, I hit the mark the first time in December of 2015. I hope I’m able to share at least 2 more of these, something tells me, I will. Consistency as always! Thanks Tawcan!!

      -Lanny

  10. Keep writing! I’m interested to know more about it. A big moment for you as you have achieved the 1k limit. Your next goal to achieve 8k attracts my attention towards your strategy and dividend income club. Lets keep our spirits high!

    • Joseph Hogue,

If there is one thing you can believe – it’s that I’ll keep writing – because of the love everyone has and shares on this journey, the idea of having all of this journalized and a constant reminder and motivation of where we need to go. I’ll get to $8K, I fricken will get there, no matter. The hat of FOCUS is on…

  12. WTF is going on in Cleveland! First the Cavs, now the Indians, and Lanny comes in with the trifecta. Seriously awesome numbers here Lanny. Well deserved income, keep pushing!

  13. Congrats Lanny! $1000 in dividend income is only something I can dream of at the moment. A 30.31% div growth rate is not too shabby either. Keep up the good work. I want to see more months like this 🙂

    • Money Grower – thank you very much, it means a great deal for the comment. You won’t be just dreaming – you will get there, YOU KNOW THAT! Let’s keep the focus on and the dreams alive.
