Lanny’s August Dividend Income Summary

Another month down in the dividend income books.  Monthly I will evaluate and show the results of which companies paid dividends, progress towards the year and comparison to the past.  This is a great way to track my dividends to see if I’m on pace for financial freedom.  Now onto my August dividend income results!

August: I received a total of $180.47 of dividends broken out by the following:

Not too shabby.  I did receive a few big guns with AT&T (T), which is nice to fully grab more than a share at one reinvestment – something about that always feels good!  It was nice seeing my health care real estate investment trusts (REITs) that I purchased back in late May, produce some dividends to the tune of $27.25 when combined.

Prior year = $42.54 in dividend income.  At $180.46, this produces a 324% growth in the month of August from last year!  Read that line again, 324%!  That is amazing and obviously is difficult/will be difficult to keep up, because of how easy it was from a low $42 income month last year.  It’s just crazy/wild to see how fast this income stream is rolling and hitting on all cylinders.  August is typically a very slow/quiet month for dividend producers/payers, so it’s nice seeing my total almost hit the $200 mark.  There’s always next year, right?

Positives this Month: Scott’s Miracle Gro (SMG) announced a dividend increase + special dividend, as I discussed earlier this month with their $2.00 special dividend!  Further, Diageo (DEO) increased their dividend for their last half on their semi-annual payment from $1.8938 last 2nd half to $2.1580 or a 14% increase, luckily we scooped some up at the time of announcement.

Year to date – $2,069.45 in dividends received, which is an average of $258.68 per month – with the big September month looming!   I think something BIG may happen in September, just as I was surprised on my monthly dividend income from June 2014.  Also – our following and blog has been taking off as of late, we are approaching close to 10,000 views per month and I know it is the community I need to thank for the constant attraction and keeping up to date with us diplomats.  We have many more moves to come on our heavy die hard pursuit to financial freedom.  The end of the month is near, so I am looking forward to see how I did with saving 60% for the month, as well as my upcoming investment report.  Bert had a phenomenal month end, with him bumping his goal another $250 for $2,000 in projected income as he talked about a few days ago.  That little man is killing it!  How is everyone else doing?  Ready to continue the big push into September?  I know you can do it, let’s keep going at this, together!  Talk soon.

    • Pollie,

I’ll surprise myself if I keep that same growth rate! However, I actually will push hard every day to find the right opportunity to hopefully hit a consistently high monthly dividend income. I am so excited for September that even thinking of what 2015 will bring… I can just imagine how epic it will be. I’m closing in on $4K projected and 2015 I should see that continually going up. Thanks Pollie, talk soon.

  1. Hi Lanny,
Congrats on a great month! That’s 180 new reasons this month alone why dividend investing is awesome!
Looking forward to seeing your projected dividends!
    Keep up the great work,

  2. Lanny,

Congrats on a great month! That alone covers a healthy chunk of bills, but it’s just going to grow from here with reinvestment and continued allocation of new capital.

    Keep that snowball rolling! 🙂

    Best wishes.

    • DM,

Thank you! I know it covers quite a bit. I spent all day/night Friday trying to reduce other monthly expenses and to refinance my mortgage to lower payments on a monthly type basis, but nothing came to fruition! My mortgage was in a “sweet” spot back in the Fall of 2011 with the rate and size of the loan and 2 insurance companies can’t come as low as I’m at now, let alone make it cheaper. I’ll continue to search on the insurance end.

Thanks again DM, excited for what this month will have in Store for us! Looking forward to a few nice dividend increases, as well as nice payouts this month. Talk soon!

  3. Crushing it Lanny! I think probably the most rewarding aspect for anyone still towards the beginning of the DGI journey is the year over year increases. Once the income stream gets to be a bit more substantial, I believe the motivation then stems from the organic growth of the portfolio turning over on itself and witnessing the compounding as a result.

September should be a record month for most of us!

    • W2R,

Thanks for stopping by. Doing the year over year comparison is always nice – you get to see what hard work you have put in for 1 year by seeing the results. I can’t wait for more compounding to occur, if only dividends happened everyday! Thanks for the post, talk soon!

    • RoadMap2Retire,

Thanks for the motivation! Obviously large percentages are 1 thing, but when I can tell you – “I’m Free” – will be the ultimate event. I really appreciate all of the positivity coming from you and the community – it’s humbling and pumps me up to continue forward. We are all almost there, let’s keep it up!

  4. Congrats on a great month. $200/month is just within reach. My august dividends hit over $100 for the first time and also increased by over 200% compared to last year, but it was from a very low base. Looking forward to hit $200/month soon.

    DGJ

    • DGJ,

Thanks for coming on by! It is within reach and I feel as tough when the year has finished, I will have easily averaged over $300 Month. Next year, I am hoping it is at least $400 per month and who knows where it could go from there!

Congrats on the $100 first time month. That feels so great seeing triple digits for the first time. You’re climbing fast DGJ, keep at it and keep looking up!
